Casa Loma

WELCOME TO CASA LOMA

Romantic neighbourhood with a stunning Medieval-style castle Casa Loma is a sought-after Toronto neighbourhood named after an iconic Medieval-style castle constructed here in 1911. The Casa Loma neighbourhood offers grand homes in a convenient Midtown Toronto location just north of the Annex. Casa Loma looms over everything, and this beautiful neighbourhood is surrounded by ravines and parkland. The impressive Casa Loma took three years, $3.5 million, and almost 300 workers to complete. Its construction attracted many other wealthy residents to the neighbourhood in the 1910s, although its debt-laden owner donated Casa Loma to the city just a decade after it was built. This unique Toronto attraction provides the neighbourhood with an incredibly romantic backdrop. Other properties in Casa Loma offer similarly elegant architecture and space on a smaller scale.

PEOPLE & LIFESTYLE

With Toronto’s most spectacular architectural masterpiece as its backdrop, Casa Loma is an enchanting place to call home. Regular bus and streetcar services run from Bathurst Street, and St. Clair Avenue West, and homes are also within walking distance of the St. Clair West subway station. There are also numerous nearby parks and ravines.

DINING, ENTERTAINMENT & SHOPPING

Casa Loma’s lavish interior features two excellent restaurants. BlueBlood Steakhouse serves mouthwatering dry-aged steaks and decadent seafood towers in a stunning space decorated with heirloom antiques, chandeliers, and modern art pieces by famous artists such as Andy Warhol and Salvador Dali. Beneath the spectacular stained glass ceiling of Casa Loma’s conservatory, the two Michelin-starred Don Alfonso 1890 draws on the cuisine of Italy’s Amalfi Coast for some of Toronto’s very best chef-driven fine dining. Don Alfonso 1890 offers an eight-course tasting menu where you can sample innovative offerings such as ice-creamed eel with sturgeon caviar and tagliatelle noodles infused with wild rose. The Casa Loma neighbourhood also offers some of Toronto’s most sublime desserts and treats. Craque de Crème has gourmet crème brûlée, scrumptious macarons, and other temping housemade specialties. Dutch Dreams sells an extensive range of ice cream flavours alongside frozen yogurt, sundaes, and shakes. Casa Loma homes are within easy reach of the commercial districts of Forest Hill Village and Bathurst and St. Clair.

THINGS TO DO

Perched at an elevation of 140 feet above sea level, Casa Loma is visible from almost everywhere in the neighbourhood. Casa Loma is the largest residence ever built in Toronto, and it serves as a popular location for weddings and film and television shoots. Casa Loma’s screen appearances include being used as Wayne Manor in the TV show Titans, Hogwarts in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, and the Beast’s castle in Disney’s live-action Beauty and the Beast. Casa Loma hosts around 250 private events and more than 650,000 visitors every year. The castle is open daily for tours of its beautifully furnished interiors and lavishly landscaped gardens. The adjacent Spadina Museum is another gorgeous historic property built in the 1860s. The Spadina House’s interior and surrounding gardens faithfully recreate the life of Toronto’s wealthiest citizens between the 1900s and 1930s. The nearby Tollkeeper’s Cottage preserves a more humble residence from the 1830s. Extending along the Casa Loma neighbourhood’s north-eastern boundary with South Hill, Sir Winston Churchill Park and Nordheimer Ravine offer lush unspoiled greenery, stunning hilltop views, old-growth oak trees, and a dog park. Other parks within easy reach of Casa Loma homes include tree-studded Wells Hill Park with a playground and wading pool, Wychwood Barns Park with a community centre and regular farmers’ market, and Hillcrest Park with sports courts, a playground, wading pool, baseball diamond, and off-leash dog area.
